WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

Science Spinners is a FREE hands-on STEM rotational programme helping to ignite students passion about science! Three fully-interactive, one-day programmes for students in years 9-13 cover schools right across the Waikato, the Bay of Plenty including Rotorua and Auckland.

Led by carefully curated Kudos scientists, professionals in STEM fields and digi-tech experts, our programmes offer interactive engagement and problem-based learning in a ‘real world’ environment, focusing on real challenges relevant to to the youth of Aotearoa.

Science Spinners is the Kudos Science Trust’s education and outreach arm, connecting students with scientists, experts and industry through practical hands-on STEM programmes. Our work is made possible by the generous support of the Ministry of Pacific Peoples, and of our sponsors and venue partners. >See all of our sponsors here

On behalf of Te Puke High School’s science department, I would like to thank the Kudos Science Trust for enabling rich science opportunities for our students through the Science Spinners workshops.

For some students, the workshops have been an absolute turning point for their future career pathways. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Kudos Awards Trust into the future.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How do you keep your programmes free?
The Kudos Science Trust is Waikato region’s independent science advocate. Over the past 15 years, we’ve worked to build long standing relationships with regional and national Science organisations; Crown Research Institutions; Education and Tertiary institutions, and loyal partners. With nearly 500 Kudos scientists and industry experts working to support the Trust’s outreach work. We’ve become an invaluable resource and are proud of our contributions to the growth and success of STEM education in the region. Our funding support from loyal partners and sponsors has enabled the growth delivery of our free programmes to our most challenged communities, empowering disadvantaged students passionate about learning to get the most out of our programmes.
  • Where else do we support education?
The Kudos Science Trust extends support to all our schools and educators across the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Rotorua by recognising and celebrating top national and internationally achieving Science students and top Regional Science Fair winners. For the past decade, we’ve invited students to attend the annual and prestigious Kudos Science Excellence awards to share the stage with our national and internationally recognised Kudos Scientists, giving them the opportunity to share their stories and winning science projects. Many have gone on to work with some of our scientists as interns, or to further science pathways through scholarship programme connections.
  • Do you work with other organisations?
We’re about collaboration; rather than recreating the wheel. We’re here to work alongside other reputable STEM education providers to promote STEM education across the regions including, STEMWana Trust, STEMFest, STEM Pacifika Committee, Waikato Science Teachers Association, House of Science, Exscite Trust, NZ Science Learning Hub, Wintec, University of Waikato and Healthy Hearts for Aotearoa NZ (HHANZ) Centre of Research Excellence.
